Deciding which devices to replace every year can be a challenge. Do you replace a device because the owner/user is complaining their device is too slow, old, or because they keep spilling jam toast on the keyboard?
Most IT departments have a yearly hardware refresh budget, which means they can only replace a certain number of devices each year. But which devices to replace? IT will need to keep some devices that are borderline. How should IT decide which devices to retain and how will that decision impact the user experience?
With the Smart Device Refresh Product Pack, 1E scores the device's performance.
Several components of the device can affect performance. With the Smart Device Refresh Product Pack, IT can customize and weight components specific to their organization's needs.
1E looks at hard disk, battery wear on laptops, the file system, operating system crashes, application crashes, and hangs. IT can assign a weight to each of these. For example, IT has the power to decide that application crashes deserve a weight of 1, and operating system crashes deserve a weight of 10.
Over a period of weeks or months, the scores add up, and devices are grouped into 3 classifications:
IT can then Monitor devices as they start to show signs of performance issues, Break-Fix devices that need a rebuild which will likely resolve the issues, and Replace devices that are flagged by the predefined criteria.
Now we have a data driven hardware refresh process that's automated and takes the guess work out of what can be a time-consuming process.
